    Dear members of the MOC community,

    It seems that many of you have not received the email we sent a couple of weeks ago outlining MOC's plans for the virtual AOM annual meeting this year. So I am including the email (with some minor updates) below. We plan to meet AOM HQ in the next few days to finalize these plans.

    Dear fellow MOCer,

    Hope you are safe and doing well.

    I am writing to inform you of MOC's plans for this year's virtual AOM annual meeting.

    Last week, the division's executive committee met to figure out how to offer our sessions online. Many details are still being worked out, but below are some ideas that we have:

    PDWs and Consortia

    AOM Leadership has suggested that we offer our consortium and 10% of our PDWs synchronously (that is, "live"). Accordingly, we plan to offer all our "in the rough" PDWs this year. We will use a combination of synchronous and asynchronous formats so as to account for time zone differences, potential technical issues, etc. Here is what we are thinking: 

    1. Cognition in the Rough. This is our "developing a research project" PDW in which you can discuss your research in an informal, collegial roundtable (aka virtual breakout table) setting with leading scholars on MOC topics. Pre-registration is required. The session will be held asynchronously in early August. More information is available here
    2. Diamonds in the Rough. This is our "developing a scholar" PDW. This year, the focus will be on supporting junior scholars as they contemplate their market/career opportunities in 2020 and beyond. The virtual panel discussion will be held "live" during the annual meeting and is open to all, but the virtual breakout table will be held asynchronously and will require pre-registration.     3. Reviewing in the Rough. This is our "developing reviewing skills" PDW in which you will have the opportunity to gain key insights about the review process and quality reviewing from Associate Editors and Editorial Board Members at leading journals in our field. The session will be held synchronously during the annual meeting. Pre-registration is required. More information is available here.
    4. Presenting in the Rough. This is our "developing presenting skills" PDW in which you will learn new strategies from a group of experts to improve your presenting abilities. The theme for this year is "Using storytelling to enhance your presentations" and will include asynchronous presentations from experts and a synchronous interactive discussion.     5. Teaching in the Rough. This is our "developing classroom activities/exercises" PDW in which you will learn about concrete, interactive activities that you can put to use right away in your classes. The session will be held synchronously during the annual meeting. Pre-registration is not More information is available here.
    6. NEW: Entrepreneurial Cognition PDW. In addition to the above, we also plan to launch our first ever "Entrepreneurial Cognition" PDW, thanks to a sponsorship from the Kauffman Foundation. The purpose of the PDW is to identify and share promising research in the area of entrepreneurship and cognition. We are pleased to announce two annual awards for promising research on this topic- the Best Paper and the Best Student Paper awards. The award winners will receive $1000.     Our amazing PDW Chair, Pauline Schilpzand, is coordinating with AOM HQ and other PDW organizers to see which other PDWs can be offered virtually.

    Paper Sessions and Symposia

    AOM Leadership has also suggested that at least 10% of traditional paper sessions and symposia will be held synchronously or "live." If your submission is selected to be presented synchronously, you will be given the option of opting out if you can not go "live." Most sessions will, however, be asynchronous. That is, you will be asked to pre-record 5-minute videos or upload your presentation slides and paper. These materials will be made available for online interaction, for example, via some kind of online discussion forum, for the entire duration of the conference.

    Naomi Rothman (our incredible Program Chair) is leading this effort. 

    Social Events

    We will continue to offer our social event, MOC Connecting, this year. This is an informal event in which you will have the opportunity to connect with established scholars and discuss various topics in micro, meso, and macro MOC-related areas. To enable the richest connections possible, pre-registration is required. More information will be shared soon.

    Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony

    We will not be holding our Distinguished Scholar presentation, awards ceremony, or Business Meeting this year. We will be announcing the nominees and award recipients in the coming weeks, but we want to honor them in person in 2021.

    Volunteers Needed!

    We do need volunteers to be "Digital Chairs" for both live and asynchronous sessions. These volunteers will help guide and encourage our members during the session. If you wish to volunteer, please let us know.

    For our student members:

    1. In case your university has revised your conference funding due to COVID-19, we can fully cover your conference registration fee. Please reach out to us by July 20, 2020. Preference will be given to members of the division and to those who are accepted to PDWs that require pre-registration (that is, Cognition in the Rough, Diamonds in the Rough, and Presenting in the Rough).
    2. We also know that many of you will be reaching the final stages of your program and are about to start the job market season soon. Given these uncertain and tiring times, we would like to support your search process by introducing those of you who are on the job market to our membership. We will do so by including your information on our website and potentially sharing it with our members via a newsletter. If you are interested in participating in this initiative, please send us a brief bio, your pic, contact information, and link to your website/LinkedIn profile by July 20, 2020.

    Our second virtual panel on "Race, Justice, and Equity in the Workplace and Beyond: A Call to Action," was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 10-11:30 a.m. ET. The recording as well as related materials will be shared soon.
