This symposium presents on-going results from a collaborative research project, launched two years ago at the Academy of Management meetings, that is a qualitative, first-person study of "moments of waking up" in connection with work. The project furthers several goals simultaneously. The intent is to: 1) enrich our understanding of how people bring mindfulness (contemplative practices) into their work; 2) to deepen the participants' contemplative practice; 3) to develop a global community of practice among people interested in these first two goals. As a result, it is also an action research project. Over 45 scholars, executives, and consultants from three continents have contributed to date in shaping the project. The intent of the current symposium is to further increase the creation of ongoing scholarly and practice-oriented via an international network of research collaboration. This "collaboratory" of people is interested in exploring the impact of contemplative practices on consulting, coaching, leadership, and teaching, and to encourage publications based on this research
