I will shortly be seeking to recruit a researcher (Research Fellow) to work with me (full-time) on a three year EU funded project focused on financial decision-making among professional traders and private investors. While I cannot formally advertise the post until the grant contract is signed, I would welcome being contacted informally by anyone you feel would be suited to the post.
The project will involve working with an international network of partners. The first phase will be series of (field and quasi-experimental) studies of decision-making behaviour among professional financial traders and investors. The second phase will involve working with partners to generate new (technologically supported) approaches to learning and decision support for these groups which can accelerate the development of expertise and improve decision-making outcomes.
A particular focus will be the role of emotion and emotion regulation in effective decision-making. We also have a particular focus on the importance of context and expertise in studies of decision-making. We have access (via partner organisations) to unobtrusive wearable sensor technologies for physiological monitoring, to support this research. We are also working with partners with expertise in neuroeconomics and in serious gaming approaches to learning.
Ideally the candidate should have completed a PhD. They should have a good understanding of literatures relating to judgement and decision-making (we will draw on both behavioural decision-making and expertise approaches). An interest in the role of emotion in decision-making would be an asset, as would an understanding of and familiarity with the world of finance. (I recognise that few candidates are likely to hit all of these).
We have good funding and good access (we have a major bank as a partner and access to both traders and a network of investors) and the project will present the opportunity to engage in a major project will good potential for high quality research publications.
The post will be based in Milton Keynes, UK (and fairly frequent international travel will be involved). The salary is likely to be in the range £29,704 to £35,469. The start date would be March 2009.
I should be happy to provide further details to anyone interested.
