    MOC Call for Proposals

The Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division (MOC) encourages the submission of your most creative ideas for PDW sessions.  The professional development workshops have become one of the most intellectually rich and vibrant parts of the AoM meetings; and with your help, MOC can continue that tradition!  PDW sessions are scheduled between Friday 1pm (August 11th) and Sunday noon (August 13th).

We at MOC encourage you to consider the conference theme -- Knowledge, Action and the Public Concern – as you create your proposal.  Other timely issues, such as identity, image, resilience, sensemaking / meaning making, shared cognition, perceptual processes, rapid cognition / decision-making, cognitive maps and structures, and countless others are also welcomed as PDW topics.

When possible, we also encourage you to create proposals that may be relevant to more than one division. The more we can share “space,” the more PDW sessions we can house in Atlanta!  Also, please remember that PDW formats are flexible and can be accommodated to fit a wide range of styles and needs.

To submit your MOC PDW proposal, please download and fill out the PDW submission form located on our website:  http://division.aomonline.org/moc/

When completed, please send your form to Mike Pratt at moc2005@business.uiuc.edu by November 4th, 2005.  Earlier submissions are encouraged as there is limited space on the PDW program.

2008 MOC Division Professional Development Workshops: Call for Proposals

The Managerial and Organizational Cognition (MOC) Division is devoted to
understanding individual and collective cognitive processes in
organizational contexts, including, but not restricted to, the nature
and role of mental representations, judgment and decision making, social
identity processes, attribution processes, individual differences,
non-conscious forms of cognitions (e.g. intuition), sensemaking,
categorization, organizational learning and memory, culture, communities
of practice and cognitive institutionalism. The Professional
Development Workshops have become one of the most intellectually rich
and vibrant parts of the MOC program and indeed of the Academy meetings
more generally. With your help MOC can continue this tradition. PDW
sessions present an opportunity to create innovative events in which
participants are able to explore issues and problems in a more relaxed
    and interactive format.

The 2008 Annual Meeting will be held in Anaheim from 8th - 13th August.
PDW sessions are scheduled between Friday 1pm (August 8th) and Sunday
noon (August 10th). We encourage you to consider the conference theme -
The Questions We Ask - as you create your proposal. The 2008 conference
theme presents an unparalleled opportunity to reassess the foundational
assumptions, theories and methods underpinning the field - including the
question of relevance - and ponder its future development. Proposals
may also address more traditional topics and concerns. In crafting your
proposals, be mindful that MOC encourages work spanning the macro, meso,
and/or micro levels of analysis. As in previous years, wherever
possible, we encourage you to create proposals that may be of relevance
to more than one division. The more we are able to collaborate with
other divisions by sharing program space, the more PDW sessions we can
    house.

Also, please remember that PDW formats are flexible and can be made to
fit a wide range of styles and needs, from PhD students to junior
faculty colleagues to 'veterans' from a variety of backgrounds and
disciplines. Some PDWs might benefit from the inclusion of
    practitioners as well as academics.

This year there is a new online submission system for PDW proposals. The
paper proposal form is no longer in use. The submission website is
http://submissions.aomonline.org/2008 and the deadline for submission of
proposals is November 15th 2007. Early submissions are encouraged, as
there will be limited space in the PDW program.
