Are you interested in social cognition? Would you like to develop your methodological repertoires beyond measuring cognition "one brain at a time" (Weick & Roberts 1993: 358)? If so, join us for the Measuring Collective Meaning PDW on Sunday, August 7 at the 2016 Academy of Management Annual Conference in Anaheim.

Part I: Expert Presentations This PDW convenes scholars who are practiced in the use of an eclectic range of methodological approaches for measuring collective meaning. In Part I, our expert panelists will provide an introduction to social cognition and collective meaning. After an overview of the topic, will feature two pairs of presentations offering complementary views on data collection and data analysis, walking though examples of techniques from both published and ongoing research. Each pair of presentations will be followed by brief open discussion intended to tease out points of convergence and contestation between the two perspectives. At the culmination of Part I our expert panelists will address questions and offer advice.

Part II: Roundtable Discussions In Part II of the PDW, our presenters and panelists will interact with participants in small-group roundtables. We will offer participants five focused roundtables to choose from, each hosted and facilitated by two panelists/presenters. The roundtables are oriented around broad theoretical areas related to collective meaning, including identity, entrepreneurship, status, and more, and will focus on methodological approaches to advancing such research. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in small group discussion at two tables of their choice. Ultimately, the roundtables will enable interactive exploration of an array of manners in which collective meanings and processes can be measured, understood, and more fully explained by members of the AOM community.
