Dear colleagues who are interested in extreme contexts research,
We're pleased to share that the extreme contexts community will continue to have a home sub-theme at EGOS 2026, after the SWG concluded last year. Submissions for sub-theme 47 on "Reframing the Extreme: Moving from Context to Theory" are now open! You can submit your 3,000 word short paper until the deadline in 7th January 2026 12:00 CET. Link to the call: EGOS - Sub-Themes: CALL for Short Papers - European Group for Organizational Studies
In this year's sub-theme, we believe it's time to take stock and start moving beyond our shared interest in the phenomenon of the extreme and towards a shared theoretical interest of understanding how the extreme comes into being. First, we can move towards a broader perspective on what extremeness consists of, away from understanding the extreme as a context or a short-lived event only. Second, we can move towards a deeper investigation of the nature of the extreme and its tendency to bring out opposites, like vulnerability and resilience. More details are in the call.
Note that in 2026 EGOS will take place online. Our sub-theme will be designed to maximize feedback and engaging interaction among participants.
We're looking forward to continuing our discussions and to seeing many of you in the coming year,
Gloria Kutscher, Derin Kent, and Daniel Geiger
