(the PDW is open to all; roundtables are limited to keep the discussion focused)

How can experiments advance social network research? What kinds of network questions can be studied experimentally, and what are the practical and methodological challenges of doing so?

This PDW brings together a distinguished group of scholars to examine how experimental methods can strengthen network research. Across research showcases, panel discussions, and small-group roundtables, participants will explore how to design, run, and publish experimental network studies.

The session spans a wide range of approaches-from laboratory experiments to large-scale online studies to field interventions-with perspectives from sociology, organizational behavior, psychology, and strategy. Attendees will get guidance on designing experimental network studies, navigating the editorial process, and turning rigorous experiments into strong theoretical contributions. Roundtable participants will have the opportunity to discuss their own projects with experienced network scholars and other participants.

    Panelists & Presenters include:

    • Adam M. Kleinbaum (Dartmouth)
    • Jill Perry-Smith (Emory)
    • Martin Kilduff (UCL School of Management)
    • Nir Halevy (Stanford)
