A focused one-day retreat for writing, reflection and scholarly connection.

Join other MOC early career scholars directly after the AOM conference for structured writing time, practical academic writing guidance, and supportive peer engagement.

Breakfast and lunch included
Overview

Are you attending the AOM conference in Philadelphia? Do you want to meet and work with other MOC early career scholars directly after the conference? Do you need time away from everyday life to concentrate on a writing task?

Are you struggling to finish an abstract, paper or proposal? Do you want to follow up on the feedback you received at the conference before you forget?

This writing retreat might be just the ticket. The MOC one-day writing retreat at the iconic Huntsman Hall offers quiet time away to immerse yourself in the writing process, plus a supportive group of other early career researchers and more senior scholars to cheer you along.

Objectives
Advance your writing
Support early career researchers in their article writing by providing structured time and space to make progress on a specific writing task.
Strengthen your writing process
Offer inspiration, tips and practical techniques for academic writing and productive writing routines.
Connect with the MOC community
Provide an opportunity for MOC early career researchers to meet, socialise, share experiences and exchange information about their projects.
Cost and preparation
Cost Thanks to a generous grant from the Managerial and Organizational Cognition division of the Academy of Management, all retreat costs are covered, including a light breakfast and lunch. Your home university must cover any other costs, such as travel and accommodation.
Preparation Decide what kind of writing task you want to work on at the retreat. It could be an article, proposal, conference abstract, results section, book chapter or something different. Read and prepare as much as possible beforehand so that you are ready to write when you join the retreat. Remember your laptop, charger and anything else you need for a productive writing session.
Registration

The registration deadline is Wednesday 15 July 2026. Registration will be capped at 20 participants, so places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
