Interesting question, Elizabeth. It is the opposite of active listening. It happens a lot.

Subject: Is there a word for this?
I am thinking about how we perceive honesty in others and I am wondering if the concept I have in mind has a name.
What do you call the experience of talking to someone who appears to be thinking about something else while talking to you?
Any ideas?
