My new book Computational Organizational Cognition: A study on thinking and action in organizations (Emerald) is finally out!

The book is of particular interest to MOC scholars for at least two reasons. One relates to its main topic. The central idea is that of outlining the advantages of using agent-based computational simulation modeling to study organizational cognition. Agent-based computational organizational cognition (AOC) is a useful if not essential instrument to explore, understand, and analyze the inner complexities of organizational cognition. Four simulations are part of this work (described from Chapter 7 through Chapter 10). Each simulation after the first builds on the previous to culminate on a model that compares extended and distributed cognitive perspectives (Chapter 10).

The other reason of interest concerns the conceptualization of cognition. In advocating for more AOC, the book builds on the Embodied/Distributed/Extended Cognition (EDEC) perspectives (Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 12). This is particularly interesting for our community because EDEC have covered a marginal role in MOC research (as I show in a bibliometric analysis in Chapter 2). If I had to define the core of EDEC perspectives in one sentence (that does not make them justice), I would write that they de-center the role of the brain while describing cognition in relation to the interplay between external (e.g., artifacts, social channels) and internal (e.g., neuro-physiological) resources.

In this book, not only the method proposed is-as far as my knowledge is concerned-new to the study of organizational cognition, but the way in which cognition is understood is also outside of what you typically find in MOC research. I really hope you will find this enough to be willing to know more about it and, by all means, get in touch with me if you find any of this interesting (or if you vehemently disagree).
