Open PhD or Post Doc Positions at the COLAB TIM Group  ETH Zurich

We are looking for a researcher to complement our team. We are accepting applications for Research Associate, Ph.D., or Post Doc positions for the Winter of 2022 or the Spring of 2023. We acknowledge that a call that ranges from research associate to Post Doc is unusual, but we are willing to consider candidates at different stages of seniority as far as the mandatory requirements are satisfied. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the ideal candidate is identified. The job is also posted on our webpage: Open Positions – Chair of Technology and Innovation Management | ETH Zurich

We offer exciting Research Associate, Ph.D., or Post Doc positions in a stimulating and challenging environment, and access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The researcher will be part of the Cognition, Learning and Adaptive Behavior - COLAB, which is part of the TIM Group at ETH Zurich. The core faculty in this program includes Professor Stefano Brusoni, Daniella Laureiro, Zorica Zagorac, and a dynamic and interdisciplinary team.

Description of the area where the applicant will conduct their research
The adaptive behavior of individuals is a fundamental aspect of change and innovation. After all, it is individuals who initiate and drive change and innovation in dynamic environments. Our goal is to understand the cognitive mechanisms involved in problem-solving processes when there are multiple goals that need to be satisfied. This is a central question that lies at the intersection of cognitive and management sciences. Two typical examples: one, a process of new product development that needs to create new products that are low in cost and high in sustainability. A second example is a process of strategic change, that needs to transform an organization that is rigid and relies on old routines and creates new routines that combine flexibility with reliability.
To achieve the interdisciplinary goal of understanding the cognitive mechanisms involved in solving such types of problems, we use a combination of qualitative, experimental, neuroimaging, and computational methods. Depending on the applicant’s interests, a specific research question will be defined, and specific methods will be selected. Ultimately, we want to use our understanding of the cognitive mechanisms to create cognitive training methods for managers to become more adaptive and impactful leaders.
